Drawing and stamping are two commonly used process methods in metal processing.

Drawing and stamping are two commonly used process methods in metal processing.

They have some differences in principles, application scope and processing effects.

1. Difference 1: Materials deform in different ways

Deep drawing stamping are two different methods of material processing, both of which are accomplished by cold working of sheet metal. Stretching causes significant plastic deformation of the material along the stretching direction under the action of a unidirectional force, while stamping uses multi-directional forces to shape the metal sheet into parts of a certain shape. In other words, drawing and stamping use different methods of material deformation, which is one of their significant differences.

2. Difference 2: Different processing and molding characteristics

In addition, there are obvious differences in processing and forming characteristics between drawing and stamping. Stretching is mainly used to extend, compress or change the cross-sectional shape in the axial direction. Its processing and forming feature is to draw out a certain length and width. Stamping processing is mainly used to make flat parts or parts with certain geometric shapes, especially in the processing of parts in railways, automobiles, machinery, electrical appliances and other industries. By choosing different molds, stamping can meet the processing needs of parts of various shapes and sizes.

3. Connection: Stretching and stamping interpenetrate each other

Although drawing and stamping and metal spinning have many differences, in practical applications, they often interpenetrate each other. Stamping dies are also used in stretch forming. For example, the underbody panels and side panels of automobiles need to be stamped. In stamping processing, drawing processing is needed to ensure the forming quality of metal sheets during complex or deep-shaped stamping.

In short, although drawing and stamping are two different material processing methods, they both have a wide range of applications and can meet the requirements for parts processing in different industrial fields. Mastering drawing and stamping technology can improve processing efficiency and processing quality of workpieces, and create greater benefits for the production and development of enterprises.

First of all, stretching refers to the process of placing a metal material on a stretching machine and causing it to plastically deform by applying tensile force. During the stretching process, the metal material will shrink laterally and extend longitudinally, thereby changing its shape and size. The stretching process is suitable for manufacturing thin-walled parts, pipes, wires and other products. Common stretching processes include stretch forming, stretch drawing, stretch shearing, etc.

Stamping refers to the process of placing a metal sheet on a punch and applying pressure through a stamping die to cause plastic deformation of the metal sheet. During the stamping process, the metal sheet is punched into the desired shape and size by a die on a punch machine. Stamping process is suitable for manufacturing large quantities of metal parts. Common stamping processes include punching, punching bosses, punching grooves, etc.

Secondly, the principles of stretching and stamping are also different. Stretching is the plastic deformation of metal materials by applying tensile force. During the stretching process, the cross-sectional area of the metal material will decrease and the length will increase. Stamping causes plastic deformation of the metal sheet by applying pressure. During the stamping process, the cross-sectional area and length of the metal sheet will change.

Finally, the processing effects of drawing and stamping are also different. Stretching can increase the strength and hardness of metal materials, but it can also make its plasticity worse. Stamping processing can make the shape and size accuracy of the metal sheet higher, and the surface finish is better, but it has less impact on the strength and hardness of the metal material.

To sum up, drawing and stamping are two commonly used process methods in metal processing. They have some differences in principles, application scope and processing effects.
